Belle of the Festival – Best Dressed Watermelon - Bring your best dressed watermelon to the party. Paint, sew, or embroider your outfit; let your imagination sprout. Marketplace Vendors will judge participants on originality. Participants can us their creativity to dress up their watermelon. Please no vulgar or obscene costumes. The Marketplace reserves the right, at their sole discretion, to disqualify any watermelons that they deem inappropriate for the festival.

 

Carve One Up – slice it, dice it, just carve it up and let’s see who can bring in the most creatively sliced watermelon. Marketplace Vendors will judge participants on originality. Please no vulgar or obscene customs. The Marketplace reserves the right, at their sole discretion, to disqualify any watermelons that they deem are inappropriate for the festival.

 

Seed Spitting –categories – adult 18 years and older – children 5 to 10 years of age and 11 to 17 years. Needs not a lot of explaining, just plain and simple, who can spit a seed the farthest. Tim Maple, past product engineer for the RomWeber Furniture Company and engineer to be Isaac Fullenkamp will judge each spit. The seed that is “spit” the farthest according to our two judges’ wins. 

 

Watermelon Eating – who can eat a slice of watermelon the fastest? Open to adults 18 years and older and children 10 to 17 years old.

 

First place winners in the adult categories will have their choice of a new, first quality T-Shirt, Polo Shirt, Hat, or Wind Jacket from the T-Shirt Shack.

 

First place winners in the Children’s Categories will have one hour of free play in George & Tony’s Arcade, does not include the use of the crane games.

 

Top three winners in each category will receive a certificate.

1. Each contestant gets two spits with two seeds.  

2. For the spit to be legal, it has to fall within the boundaries. (The Spitway is about 15 feet wide and 85 feet long.)  

3. When spitting, it is forbidden to step outside the seed spitting area.  

4. The final distance is calculated not by where the seed first lands, but where it ultimately stops.

Gather by the main entrance at 1:00 pm. 

Watermelon Eating – who can eat a slice of watermelon the fastest? Open to adults 18 years and older and children 10 to 17 years old. Each contestant will receive one slice of seedless watermelon. The person who eats the watermelon the fastest wins. Watermelon slice is considered eaten when no red melon is present. Gather on Depot Street at 1:30 pm.
